ARCTIS organised “Mastering the Mic”, a practical workshop in English, Turkish and Ukrainian conference interpreting at VIZJA University’s Laboratory of Phonetics and Oral Interpretation (Room 205, Okopowa 59, Warsaw). Led by Prof. Yan Kapranov together with MA student Fatma Alsaç, the session gave students a chance to work with the techniques and pressures of professional oral interpretation.
Inside the workshop
- Fundamentals of conference interpreting and the challenges of the English–Turkish–Ukrainian language combination.
- Voice control, microphone technique and communication in the interpreting booth.
- Simultaneous and consecutive interpreting exercises, with realistic scenarios and peer feedback.
Participants could test their skills in simulated professional conditions, connecting classroom learning with hands-on practice. This report is based on the centre’s account of the event.
