Prof. Yan Kapranov reported presenting “Diachronic-Panchronic Identification and Interpretation of Nostratic Language Relationships” at the Finnish Conference of Linguistics at the University of Helsinki on 14 May 2025. His presentation was scheduled from 13:30 to 14:00 local time, according to the centre’s announcement.

Deep language relationships under discussion

The talk addressed methods of Nostratic comparison, diachronic changes in phonological and lexical features, panchronic structures and the challenges of reconstructing deep genealogical relationships. The source report describes a discussion of the relevance and validity of the Nostratic hypothesis. These are topics of research and debate; the report does not establish the hypothesis as settled.

Kapranov connected the work to his broader Passport4Nostratica project. This record documents his academic participation and does not imply that ARCTIS organised the conference.
