From the /r/ sound to ChatGPT: a talk on AI and speech therapy

Speech therapy students watch Yan Kapranov’s online talk on AI and language

On 7 May 2026, Yan Kapranov spoke with second-year students of Speech Therapy and Inclusive Education at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University. His interactive talk, From the /r/ Sound to ChatGPT: How AI Is Transforming Speech Therapy Practice, explored speech, pronunciation and communication through a linguistic perspective.

The discussion considered ways artificial intelligence can support the creation of speech-development tasks and the adaptation of educational materials for children with special educational needs. Students also examined the limits of automated interpretation of children’s speech, including atypical and bilingual speech, and the continuing responsibility of specialists.

This outreach activity connects phonetics, multilingualism and digital language tools with professional education. Read the account and photographs on the ARCTIS Facebook page.
